Gender-Specific Screening
Breast Cancer Screening:
For the general population, mammograms are recommended every 2 years. Most breast cancers happen in women with no family history.
If your mother had breast cancer, then a screening mammogram every year is recommended. This should begin 10 years prior to your mother's age at diagnosis.
Pap Smears:
Cervical cancer screening is recommended for women 25 years of age and older. Routine screening occurs every 3 years. Annual pap smears are recommended for women who have had previous cervical treatment or hysterectomy for cervical abnormalities.
