                                               Vaccine Update

Information on where and how to access the vaccine will continue to be updated through the government's website, the CDC website,  and through media releases as it becomes available.
Given the current limited vaccine inventory and unique storage and handling requirements of the vaccine products, the vaccines will not be available in doctor’s offices or pharmacies but through specific community sites.

To all patients of Wilson Centre Family Practice,

We sincerely want to thank you for your patience and cooperation as we have all been trying to navigate through these unprecedented times. With the high numbers of Covid-19 cases and community transmission, we wanted to take this opportunity to provide you with some reminders and review changes to our usual clinic policies. Please remember that these measures are in place to protect you and your family, as well as our staff, physicians, and their families.

  • Whenever possible, our physicians will continue to provide medical care through phone or video appointments. In person visits will continue to be limited to well-child check ups (including baby vaccines), certain procedures, and for patients who require an in-person examination after discussion with a physician.
  • If you are booked for an in-office appointment, the appointment will be specifically to address the issue that was agreed upon with your family physician. We ask that you do not bring up new issues as we need to limit the amount of time spent face to face with our patients. You will be asked to book a follow up appointment over the phone or by video to address your other concerns.
  • Please be on time for in-office appointments. However, please do not come to the clinic early as we are continuing to limit the number of people in our waiting room at any given time.
  • Phone and video appointments should be treated as in-office visits. This means being available at your phone at your scheduled time and ensuring that you are in a quiet, private setting. Our physicians have a dedicated time slot specifically for your appointment and we ask that you please respect this time.
  • Missed phone/video appointments will be treated like no-show appointments and there may be a charge. Please remember that your phone call will be coming from a private phone number; if your phone has a feature that automatically blocks unlisted numbers, we ask that you turn that feature off when you are expecting the doctor to call so you don’t miss it.
  • Masks are mandatory while you are in the clinic. This includes entering to pick up prescriptions, lab requisitions, etc from the front desk. Please ensure you are wearing your mask properly; the mask should cover your chin, nose, and mouth. For more information, please review the following recommendations from the Canadian Thoracic Society and our clinic's position statement:
WICFP Position Statement on Mask Exemptions
                                                                                                 Canadian Thoracic Society Recommendations

  • We are continuing to put a hold on complete physical exams for now, however we want to assure you that we will continue to order routine bloodwork, and still strongly recommend routine screening (eg. mammograms, pap smears, FIT testing, colonoscopies).
  • We ask that you attend in-office visits alone when possible, but exceptions will be made in certain situations (eg. well-child check ups).
  • If you need a refill for your medications, please have your pharmacy information on hand. This includes the street name, and phone and fax number.
  • There is a delay when lab requisitions and prescriptions are faxed to laboratories and pharmacies and we ask for your patience. After your phone appointment, please wait 48 hours before picking up your prescription. If you require them sooner, please advise your doctor and they can leave the prescription at the front desk for you to pick up.
  • We continue to recommend that you abide by the recommendations of the B.C. Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, so that we can keep everyone safe. Please continue to mask, wash your hands regularly and thoroughly with soap for 20 seconds, avoid touching your face, cough into your sleeve and follow the rules regarding social distancing and limiting social gatherings outside your immediate household.

Thank you again from all of us at Wilson Centre Family Practice.

Prescription Refills

For appointment bookings please call (604) 942-7227.

On line booking is also available. Please see the front desk to register.

Phone lines are busiest 8:00-10:00 am and 1:00-2:00 pm.  For non urgent matters and to reduce your wait time on hold,  we encourage you to phone outside these times.

If requesting a prescription, please try to bring a list of the medications you need refilled.

If you are following up regarding specific results, you may wish to confirm that these have been received prior to your appointment.
Please cancel your appointment 24 hours in advance to avoid a fee - $30 for 10 minute appointments or $50 for longer appointments including physicals, procedures and counselling.

With enough notice, we can offer the appointment to another patient and ensure all our appointment times are filled. This will help improve service to our patients by reducing how long our patients have to wait to see their doctor.
We do not refill prescriptions by phone or fax. Prescriptions are carefully timed to finish when follow up between a patient and physician is due. Please book an appointment if you require a prescription refill. In case of emergency, your pharmacist is able to provide an emergency supply.

 Conduct

We are unable to accept phone referrals. If you require a referral, please book an appointment with your own doctor.

If a referral has been made by your doctor, your patience in receiving your appointment date is appreciated.

Unfortunately wait lists are long and, depending on the specialty, wait times to hear about your appointment can range from one week to many months.
Once the initial referral has been made you are welcome to call your specialist's office to inquire.

Please book an appointment with your doctor to discuss results. Our staff are unable to disclose results over the phone.

Our staff do their best to provide excellent care. Our clinic hosts 15 doctors and serves thousands of patients. While we understand that health care interactions can be frustrating, inappropriate behaviour towards our staff or clinic will not be tolerated and will result in discontinuation of care.
